Parents’ need not drive their children to school with Hampshire County Council’s latest ‘curb congestion’ routine.
Parents’ are advised to, if possible get their children to walk to school or use public transport to discard the high rate of congestion currently in and around the Winchester district.
A pupil attending the secondary school: King’s in Winchester, 13 year old Laura Winter walks to and from school everyday. She commented: ‘I quite enjoy the ten to fifteen minute walk to school, it allows me to get fresh air and catch up with friends-probably what makes it more enjoyable.’’
The main objectives of this pilot scheme are to encourage pupils out of cars and find alternative methods of getting to and from school to help reduce school run congestion.
Parents’ and pupils’ are being given the chance to get fit, reduce pollution, increase independence and improve road safety awareness at their own discretion.
Getting pupils’ to make best use of public transport will make the service more economically and socially compatible as well as decreasing congestion-the main issue.
For the scheme to make a difference across Hampshire more parents must make their children aware of the issues and encourage them to get fit.
Schools are internally making pupils aware of the main objectives and are working closely alongside public transport to achieve success.
